The dialectic of the roots of terrorism

Mamdouh Bitar, Ruba Mansour:

The culture of violence, terrorism and rejection of the other is based on many pillars, Violence, terrorism and rejection of the other are born from the womb of totalitarianism and from the womb of the inability to deal creatively with pluralism, then the neurotic tendency to impose homogeneity, All of this produced a culture of aggression, which has afflicted the peoples of this region, who are originally predisposed to contracting this disease, Most of the predisposition to aggression is due to the characteristics of pastoral Bedouinism, which are still socially dominant, Characteristics such as revenge, retaliation, the inability to dialogue and exchange ideas, then the failure to admit error and possess the absolute truth, violence, contempt for women and other negative characteristics that distinguish Bedouinism from urbanism.
Bedouin culture entered the consciousness of these peoples through the gate of conquests and the gate of religion, which was also affected by it, and thus turned into a practitioner and promoter of it, especially after the occupations and conquests, The influence of religion on Bedouinism fell in the Saqifah, In the Saqifah, the concept of “nation” fell, which was supposed to be an alternative to the concept of tribe or clan, The tribes and clans did not turn into anything resembling a single nation except in one field or one branch, which is the field of war, captivity and plunder.
The Bedouin characteristics were not innate, but rather acquired through the influence of the harsh desert environment on the desert inhabitants, an environment that does not allow for the practice of the duality of production and subsistence, and thus the birth and revival of the duality of plunder and subsistence, since there is no production in the barren desert, which could not be converted into agricultural land, thus enabling the Bedouins to remain in place, a stability necessary for the establishment of cities, i.e. urban areas.
Due to the scarcity of the barren desert and the harshness of the environment, the Bedouins found in the new religion an organizer for the dilemma of obtaining the necessary livelihood to cover the costs of life, Instead of practicing conquest each on his own, that is, each tribe or clan on its own, they united under the umbrella of false religious conquests, They invaded, then stole, plundered and took captive within the framework of the rule of one-fifth for leadership, and four-fifths for the mujahideen, not in the way of God, but in the way of spoils.
The conquests began before the spread of religion, in fact, even among the conquerors, The period between the birth of the call and the beginning of the conquests was short enough to allow for doubt that the fighting mujahideen were not truly followers of the religion, but rather followers of the thieves of the spoils, which the religion organized and encouraged, Their individual practices turned into collective practices, The tribes united under the black banner and under the concept of the legitimacy of the spoils, which the new religion gave to the conquerors.
The target of the invasion was the rich fertile regions such as Mesopotamia, the Nile Valley and the Levant in general, They chose the fertile regions not to work in agriculture, as the invaders did not work at all! Rather, they parasitized others and practiced brutal taxation, which impoverished the peoples of the conquered colonies. The culture of work and production was non-existent among them, Unfortunately, they were only men of the sword.
They established a military regime in the colonies, which contributed to the Arabization of the peoples who were subjected to Bedouin control, The rule was Bedouin, and the ruler was Bedouin Qurayshi in an absolute manner, and absolutely oppressive, They practiced this by many means, including forcing people to change their religion, and even their language and values, They occupied minds in addition to occupying strongholds, They were passionate about rabbit breeding, so they were able to secure a sufficient number of fighters, They initially sought help from others in the field of administration, but they remained conservative in the pivotal positions in the pyramid of power, The solution and the connection were in their hands and exclusive to them, They did not integrate with the inhabitants of the colonies, and the inhabitants of the colonies had no mission other than providing services, paying tribute, and securing captives and concubines, They did not even learn from the inhabitants of the conquered areas anything worth mentioning, What can conquered peoples learn from them other than practicing violence, wars, control, and collecting tribute and land tax, then Bedouin customs and traditions, which were imposed alongside the new religion. And besides the new language by the sword.
Bedouin characteristics were imposed, and thus Bedouin culture prevailed, and the features of previous civilizations such as the Sumerian, Greek, Roman, Persian, Pharaonic and others disappeared, The peoples who invented crafts and the plow stopped being creative, as the atmosphere imposed by the invaders was not compatible with creativity, It was an atmosphere of obstacles, prohibitions and bans, Thus, by looking at the region, we can confirm that the wheel of progress and development has stopped, The Levant has turned into a functional desert, and the people of the Levant have turned into Bedouins without a desert, That is, not only has forward development stopped, but there has been a regression,. The Levantine society of agriculture, crafts, writing, construction and arts has turned into a society of tribes and clans like the tribes and clans of the desert. There are no letters, no agriculture and no construction, but only devastation, barrenness, stagnation and petrification.
The Bedouins had a brutal, steely grip, and thus they were able to eliminate almost all scholars by barbaric means, Only a very few of them were spared from slaughter, burning, crucifixion, roasting, and starvation, and most of them were of Persian origin, With barbarism in dealing with those who differed intellectually, Bedouinism was able to impose its culture on the peoples of the conquered countries, and they were able to obliterate the civil cultures of those peoples, the cultures of science, innovation, and thought, with which they enlightened the world, Imagine another path for history, a path without Bedouinism. Imagine if these peoples were left free to work, think, and create,Isn’t it expected that these peoples would lead the world to a higher and more beautiful horizon, a horizon of progress, peace, and success, and not a horizon of the military, the sword, killing, and barbarism?
As they destroyed the lives of their scholars, they destroyed the lives of other peoples, drowning them in seas of blood, pain, backwardness and hatred, and this for fourteen centuries, centuries while these peoples live in increasing humiliation, increasing poverty, increasing immorality and increasing failure, and the worst of all is the deep-rootedness of the psychology of failure, deficiency, hatred and violence in the souls of the people, a deep-rootedness that is difficult to uproot in a reasonable period of time, and it must be uprooted if these peoples want life, dignity and freedom.
