Mira alBitar, Mamdouh Bitar:
Is there anyone who doubts the existence of sexual repression in Arab-Islamic societies? I don’t think so! There’s no reason to prove it with evidence. We begin with the existence of a horrific state of repression. Since these societies are in a state of revolution, whether overt, latent, stolen, or relapsed, etc., it’s worth asking about the status of the social revolution, including the sexual revolution, which must accompany the political revolution in its progress and delay.
It is not unknown that a revolution does not fail at some stage, and the setback of the Syrian revolutionary situation and then the elimination of the first attempt does not represent the end of history. Revolutions in general know winding paths, and human revolutions against injustice, corruption and slavery have a logical instinct represented by the necessity of demolishing what exists and building what is new. Revolutions are brought about in an unconscious and unintentional manner despite the rational rejection of those who uproot what exists. When the role of these people ends, they leave and the role of others comes. This was the case in the development of most revolutions, especially the French Revolution. The continuation of the revolution in an active or latent state is only related to the continued existence of its causes, opponents and the state of its revolutionaries. The current Syrian setback represented by the dominance of imported killers from the Uyghurs, Chechens and others has only a temporal relationship to the end of the matter. The revolution may be delayed, slowed down or accelerated, but the end is inevitable. The revolution exists as long as the causes are available for it, and the causes are available to date with the presence of the Uyghurs and Chechens and the body that embraces them. The revolution will succeed in the end. The price Syrians will have to pay is estimated to be very high and not precisely known.
The setback of the revolution and the crushing of the first attempt in 2011 did not pass unnoticed by women. Women were negatively affected, relatively outdated. The practice of veiling and wearing the niqab increased, sexual repression intensified, and demands for more of it increased, in order to protect chastity and the honor that lies between the thighs. All of this was accompanied by the consecration of women as second-class citizens and above. Women suffered more from the setback than men, such as forcing female university students to wear the niqab and veil, especially since women represent more than half of the family and society. Women are still more sexually repressed than men, to the point that there is no popular recognition of their sexual needs. They must be passive and accept the act, even stripping them of sexual pleasure through female circumcision. All of this does not encounter any noteworthy male opposition. Indeed, many support this practice, because there are those who completely obey the scriptures, messengers, customs, traditions, and traditions. In subjugating women to sexual slavery and transforming them into a sex machine that men ride as and when they want, many methods are used that I don’t need to mention in detail, but it is useful to mention a method that I see as important. This method is called “cultural privacy” which fundamentalism brandishes in its face. The use of this privacy is cunning, as male fundamentalism has transformed her body into a “cultural carrier.” Despite the fact that this transformation means reducing her to a hymen and a veil, then considering her a carrier of chastity and purity, thinking that this tickles her feelings! Your hijab, my sister, is a crown on my head. You are a hidden jewel and pearl. Then comes the threat and warning: “Two types of people of Hell I have not seen: men with whips like the tails of cows, with which they beat people, and women who are clothed yet naked, who sway others and are led astray, with heads like the humps of leaning camels. They will not enter Paradise nor smell its fragrance.” Your honor, my sister, is higher than mine, so you must be slaughtered to preserve your lofty honor… etc.
A woman’s instinct cannot be changed, nor her sexual urges killed. Even circumcision, which is widespread in Egypt, for example, will only change things for the worse. It is very simple. Sex is important and essential for both men and women. Indeed, it is one of the most important things in human life: happiness, contentment, reproduction, pleasure, etc. It is generally certain that sex is one of the basic needs of man. Man’s increasing civilization has enabled him to have relative control over these needs, their organization, and how to use them. Satisfying women, however, does not mean eliminating them or monopolizing them by either man or woman. Repressing sexual desires, or what is called repression, will lead to sexuality slipping out of the hands of conscious, organized, and respectful human control over private matters, which must be in the hands of each individual, male or female. Ultimately, it is their vagina, their virginity, and their body, and no one has the right to interfere, suppress, direct, or control the bodies of others.
It was possible for a male-dominated society to control women due to their superiority over them in practicing the art of warfare and collecting the spoils of war. Control was economic. Increasing women’s economic independence will defeat all religious barriers, moral fabrications, and male deceptions, and will reduce the fear of the naked but clothed women of Hell. The matter of Heaven and Hell is linked to the matter of education, which Sheikh Abu Ishaq al-Huwaini did not want for women. He undoubtedly knows the reason!
