The abuse of religion by politics, the abuse of politics by religion

 M. Bitar, Ruba Mansour

Montagslächeln: Mullah-Regime | Campact The historical mistake of the Arabs since the Great Fitna(sect war) was mixing religion with politics, which was manifested in the personality of the Caliph, who combined religion and politics, That mixture was transferred, by way of an attempt to revive the ancient heritage, to the present and to the present forms of government, Religion is a drum pulled by the mule of politics, and politics is a drum pulled by the mule of religion, and the result has been, and still is, bad, nihilistic, absurd, and failed.

The mixing harmed both politics and religion simultaneously, and as a result, led to the ossification of both, Sometimes, religious figures moved to support fixed political slogans such as “One Arab Nation! The Great Arab People! Reviving Arab Glories,” etc., and at other times, politics moved to enshrine the aims of religious figures, for example, through the Personal Status Law, such as Article Three of the Syrian Constitution regarding the religion of the head of state….islam , and then considering Sharia as a source of the Constitution, etc. That is, the revival of religious Sharia was done with the help of politics, and the revival of politics was done by religious figures, As a result, each froze the other.

They took turns vilifying the people with a barrage of accusations, From the political side, there were accusations of treason, collaboration, reactionism, selling out the cause, betrayal, etc. From the religious  side,   there were counter-accusations whose content was takfir (excommunication), heresy, apostasy, renegadeness, and rejectionism, All of these were ready-made religious accusations that expressed political differences, and the accusations of the other side were ready-made political accusations that expressed religious differences, Criticism of the leaders was in its essence religious; the Sunni criticizes the Shiite and vice versa, The cover for the criticism was political; the leadership is bad because of its religious development, Thus, the   muslim Brotherhood opposes any non-Sunni leadership on the pretext that the leadership is attacking freedom and democracy, without any embarrassment that they are, in principle, the first and fiercest enemies of freedom and democracy.

Even the problem of Israel has been subjected to the same line of thinking, Many turbaned men claim that the enmity with Israel has nothing to do with the occupation of Palestine, but rather with the Islamic-Jewish enmity, In doing so, they transfer the conflict from the past to the present, The intransigence of Islamists in this regard is not so much political and humanitarian as it is doctrinal, sectarian, and formal, Confronting Israel and its practices stems from the fact that Jews are infidels and descendants of apes and pigs—expressions unbecoming even of those who utter them, unbecoming of the Palestinian problem, and unbecoming of moral virtues, Understanding and solving the Palestinian problem requires a realistic intellectual and political stance that can be discussed, So how can one respond to the idiotic discourse about apes and pigs or infidelity? These are monologues from 1400 years ago, monologues whose aim is to stir up emotions and religious and ethnic racism, Monologues are not products of reason, and the solution to the problem can only be achieved through reason!

A person becomes frustrated because of the decline that has afflicted the Arabs, a decline that has dressed politics in the garb of religion, Whoever disagrees with some Arabs attacks his religion directly or indirectly, The war on Iraq is a crusade, the Russian intervention in Syria is Orthodox, the West is infidel, the Russians are heretics, the Iranians are Magians, the Alawites are Rafidites, and the list goes on, The content of the farce of the list and its length is proof of the stupidity of the emotional Arab-Islamic thought that is disastrously centered on religion and sect.

Religious discourse is not political in its essence, while the problem is political and requires a political solution produced by political parties, Religion is not a political party, All this nonsense does not express a political position that can be discussed, Does a sane person understand the claim of some Arab lunatics that Spain is their property, which the Spanish stole from them, while at the same time they engage in lamentations and shed tears over Palestine??? All of this is nothing but self-pity that can no longer be tolerated or understood.

These are monologues for self-consumption; it is self-talk; it is narcissism and self-gratification, a loss of pleasure due to erosion and habit, Even in internal wars, Arabs manipulated religion on the battlefields, The cry of “God is great” accompanying every cannon or rifle shot was aimed at mobilizing and stirring people’s religious feelings, Overall, it is a farce, deserving nothing less than ridicule, especially from those who want to monopolize God’s favor!
