In this report, there was a comparison between the gross national product of the Arab countries and the gross national product of Spain, The report concluded that the Spanish national product was higher than the gross national product of all the Arab countries combined, including oil.
It is logical and rational to consider the reasons for this disparity so that these nations can create a better situation. Instead, a writer on the IslamOnline website launched into a tirade, claiming that the report is nothing but an act of humiliation and insult to Arabs, providing a new weapon to be used to further squander Arab dignity and defame them and their religion, Furthermore, the mere selection of Spain as a former Arab colony for seven or eight centuries is an insult to Arabs, In addition, it is well known that a slight increase in the price of oil would turn this comparison upside down! This is not true, as the rise in oil prices will lead to a rise in the prices of products in general, that is, a rise in the prices of manufactured goods, which all Arab countries need, and to an increase in the efforts of industrialized countries to produce alternatives to oil. Thus, America became the largest oil-producing country in the world…oil from rocks and shale instead of oil from underground.
The comparison suggests that there is a mistake among the Arabs, How can a country with a population of no more than 40 million people, like Spain, and without underground resources, surpass all Arab countries in productivity combined? Yes, there is a mistake without a doubt, and the mistake is not in making the comparison, nor in the Spanish, but in the Arab mind.
