Formal religiosity and formal faith

Ma Bitar Rouba Mansour:

There is no major disagreement among humans about values of a positive human nature such as goodness and love, but there are major differences among humans about the “practical” contents and applications of the contents of these values. Even the Creator was different from Himself and contradicted Himself regarding the practical and theoretical contents of these values,From the gate of a divine religion came to us commands whose content is “Do not kill,” and from the gate of another divine religion came to us commands whose content is “Kill.” The contradictions and opposites multiplied, which confirmed that the divine self was afflicted with a kind of schizophrenic duality with its contradictions and opposites that are more than can be counted.

Despite all this, whoever is asked about the justifications or reasons for embracing a particular religious doctrine will answer that that doctrine provided him with an understanding of life after earthly death, which, according to some, does not constitute the final form of death, Here, religious thought was keen to invent another parallel and enticing life that cannot be denied or confirmed, and was keen to establish an integrated relationship between earthly life and the other life, repression on earth and liberation in heaven, that is, between reality and illusion. The illusion that promised good turned into a catastrophic matter for earthly life, which was diminished and despised by the illusions, and thus inflicted great harm upon it!

In the name of good and for the sake of good, homogeneity was imposed on the peoples of the nation, in the form of imposing a religion on the peoples of the nation, then imposing a law on the peoples of the nation in ways that indicate a flaw in understanding human nature, which knows nothing but difference. Suppressing difference was a great evil that eliminated creativity and suppressed humanity, The list of impositions in the name of good and producing evil is very long, and there is no room to enumerate and examine them in detail.

The sacred and the absolute represent the framework for interaction and dealing with religion, and the interaction of the self with religion represents what is called religiosity, If the absolute and the sacred become doubtful and disputed, then religiosity will become doubtful and disputed, Doubt is not the task of the other, but it is at the core of the tasks of the religious person, The religious person understands, perceives, doubts, reacts, evaluates, and discovers right and wrong. By turning his religiosity into a “formal” one condemns religion at its core and rejects religion in its entirety, Formal religiosity represents contempt for religion and an unconscious disdain for it, If it were not for the fear of the consequences of leaving the group and its bloody reactions, and of social execution and the rulings of apostasy, some would not have practiced the fabrications of formal religiosity. The essence of formal religiosity is not only its hypocrisy and contradictions, but also its expression of the absence of religion in this religiosity, i.e. the beginning of the end of religion.

Even in the “formally” religious East, there is an aversion to the religious phenomenon, which manifested itself in the activities of the Muslim Brotherhood and other jihadist groups, The reason for the aversion was enlightenment regarding the investment and consumption of religion in a time that knows nothing but consumption, There is a deep similarity between religion and consumer culture manifested in the pattern of formal religiosity, which does not care about the interaction and reflection of religion on practices and behavior, as much as it cares about the practice of devotional rituals and the diligent work to show them visually in a way that superficially suggests the existence, dominance and respect of religion, The result was the opposite, as trading in religion by selling it as formal religiosity denies the existence of religion, i.e. the end of religion, Religion ended when the  God, the representative of virtue, turned into hatred, hostility and rejection of others, then lies and fabrication,There is no truth in the saying, “And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.”

Social revolutions are revolutions for freedom, justice, and equality, while the religious revolution was mainly about the woman’s body, covering it, diminishing it, consuming it, and despising it, then discovering that the woman was deficient in intellect and religion, which legitimized war against her (the relationship of the strong with the weak), and thus enshrined violence, which produced jihad and wars.

Discovering the causes of prayer being corrupted was more important than discovering the causes of life being corrupted by poverty, disease, violence, racism, and sectarianism. The word “sex” is considered impure… God forbid… Despite it being impure, the Arab Muslims broke records in their search for sex, The Arab Muslims are interested, for religious reasons, in eliminating sexual temptations, but they are the most active in searching for and investigating them , Sales of male enhancement drugs are relatively high in Saudi society and similar societies. Contradictions without limits or boundaries!

From all that has been mentioned, it can be said that religion violates human dignity, Faith is not synonymous with spiritual purity and moral excellence, but rather with intellectual deficiency, Drowning in illusions and superstitions is similar to drowning in wars, killing, and the practice of violence, It is not virtuous at all! Humanity’s past need for religion does not mean that this need will continue in every era, What was beneficial in one historical context can become harmful in another, A question for those who adhere to a superficial form of faith: Did believers come to know God when they cried out “There is no god but God” a few years after the call to Islam was proclaimed? Did they come to know Him when He granted them four-fifths of the spoils of war? Scoundrels!
