From male to man, and from female to woman

M. Bitar, Syriano:

ذكورية المجتمع بأيادٍ نسائية.. كيف يكون ذلك؟ | فلسطين أون لاين         How is a woman born? Is a woman born a woman? Simone de Beauvoir answered this question by saying, “A woman is born female, but she becomes a woman,In some societies, a woman is born female and remains female, with a social status lower than that of a man by degrees,The inferiority of the female, by hindering her transformation into a woman, was an obvious and inevitable result of a sick and troubled social situation.”

There is a difference between the sexual gender, i.e., male-female, and the social gender, i.e., man-woman, Biological masculinity is different from social masculinity, and we do not think that the popular Arab mind in general is aware of this, We do not know for sure if there is a linguistic distinction, i.e., does the language accurately distinguish between the concept of masculinity and the concept of masculinity? Does the general culture distinguish between the female equivalent to the male and the woman equivalent to the man? Does the general public distinguish between the biological female and the social female, i.e., between the female and the woman?

The difference between male and man represents a great deal of progress from the primitive, instinctual animal level to the social man who controls his instincts, and thus the instincts are transformed into a straight formula with a correct, advanced and good social life.

The social culture of the peoples of this region does not distinguish between the biological female and the social woman, The female remains a female, that is, a socially deficient creature, This social deficiency, that is, the failure to transform into a woman, is equivalent to the social gain of the male’s transformation into a man, that is, masculinity in males, The female creature remains a biological being, socially deficient and therefore inferior,The female is associated with the vulva, while the penis is associated with the man. The female is only a vulva, while the social man is not only a penis. The evolution of the male into a man gave him a high status and social privileges, while the female remained a female, that is, a biological creature without a high social status or value. Masculinity is superior to maleness, and womanhood is a quality superior to femininity. But the female who did not transform into a woman in the societies of this region remained a breeding incubator and a sexual object, socially oppressed in matters of inheritance, testimony, and much more, In the dominant religious sense, she is deficient in intellect and religion, The Arab mind does not comprehend the consequences of this!

Masculinity stems from maleness as a social complement to a biological component, while the female remains a female without a social role as a woman,What kept her as a female was the traditional masculinity embraced by religious belief, The inferiority of the female is not an inevitable condition of her biological femininity, but rather the result of a sacred social and religious decision that keeps the female a female and prevents her transformation into a woman, that is, her transformation from the sexual gender (masculinity-femininity) to the social gender (man-woman).

It seems that the Arab sectarian mind accepts the biological male’s ascent to a social man, that is, the ascent from an animal state to a social human state, while it rejects a similar transformation for the female, that is, the evolution from female to woman. And what is the female in the end but a creature with biological functions such as reproduction and procreation? Is the matter here due to a mere linguistic poverty in distinguishing between female and woman? Or is it due to a structural mental poverty? There is no existence in the Arab mind of the essence of Simone de Beauvoir’s saying about the transformation of the female to a woman.

It seems that the Arab male finds it difficult to get rid of considering biological femininity as the ultimate goal, and it seems that he is not ready to build human identities that do not make sexual difference an excuse for social differentiation between the sexes, Perhaps the heritage is the reason, as the concept of the female remains a female deeply rooted in religious minds, and in the face of uprooting it, the sacred male belief stands as an obstacle to the development of the female into a woman.

There was and still is a strong relationship between social reality and the lived economic situation. Males monopolized the muscles needed by primitive productive economic structures, The development that accompanied the decrease in the value of muscle and the increase in the value of the mind in developed societies pushed these societies to develop moral systems with all their values and social and intellectual behavior towards creating economic independence for women, which led to their liberation and emancipation,The lack of security and economic independence for women put them in the trap of fear and dependency, which turned into a fixed and deeply rooted social culture in the patriarchal male society.

The texts stood as an obstacle to women’s independence,What are the implications and meaning of “Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth”? This means that the man is the head of the woman, her ruler, and responsible for disciplining her when she “deviates or rebels” and when he believes she has erred, Guardianship is the authority over her, and it requires physical and financial strength, Guardianship is an exclusive right of the man, not the woman,A woman cannot be in charge of a man, even if she undertakes to provide for the family, If she does provide for them, it is considered, from a legal perspective, to be an act of charity on her part, nothing more, A backward society is composed of females and males, not men and women!
