Although the value of “patriotism” is not of local origin, its verbal usage has been and remains intense in this region, This is similar to democracy, which the Bedouin mentality has excelled at uttering and emphasizing its necessity, while simultaneously excelling at fighting it and refusing to practice it, In Europe, citizens rarely speak of patriotism or nationalism, and anyone who speaks of patriotism in the local Bedouin style makes a fool of themselves, This is because discussing someone’s patriotism is always linked to questioning the patriotism of another, In Europe, there is no such thing as being unpatriotic or a traitor, even if they oppose the government’s projects and actions, The exaggerated use of the word “patriotism” is accompanied by an exaggerated use of the word “treason ” Other societies do not experience this intensive use of the concept of treason, while in this region, this word is used hundreds of thousands of times daily, Anyone with a different opinion is simply and automatically labeled a traitor, In practice, the common meaning of this word has deviated from its true meaning and has become… The bankruptcy of values is a term used to express praise and condemnation, a gateway through which other terms such as “patriot” or “traitor” enter.

The content and standards of patriotism differ from one country to another, and within the same country from one group to another, At the level of individual and collective consciousness, the meaning of this term also differs, The divergence or difference was most pronounced between democracies and dictatorships, between sheikhdoms and republics, and then between the tribe and the state, In the sheikhdom, for example, this expression is shriveled to take a jurisprudential form in which the concept of patriotism does not take root in its modern European form, In this region, the concept of the nation with a religious background dominates, while the concept of the homeland is atrophied and shriveled in reality, even though religious groups live in homelands that are geographically and popularly defined and recognized as a state or homeland globally,These people feel their belonging to a “nation” that transcends borders more than their belonging to a “homeland” with borders. This is generally consistent with the jurisprudential view that the homeland is an idol.

In the democratic West, the concept of patriotism is primarily related to the land and what is on it, as the goal of patriotic practice is the prosperity, flourishing, and progress of the land and the society that inhabits it, However, in the personalized, dictatorial East, the concept of “patriotism” has been hybridized to be consistent with the authoritarian “person,” his goals, and his whims, who has abolished the ownership of the land by those on it, and he has become the owner of the land and what is on it, Every interest revolves around the person himself, his whims, and his henchmen, Consequently, the value of patriotism had to be “disciplined and trained” to the new situation and to be compatible with the person, i.e., the personalization of the state.

Distortion and falsification are rampant in this region, and the most significant distortion has been the transformation of the concept of patriotism in the active consciousness of the people, It has become an active tool for national division and an indirect killer of national unity. This is because the proliferation of this term in defining one citizen is coupled with the proliferation of the term “traitor” in defining another citizen,Hence comes the “harvest” of national division resulting from this usage, Herein lies the catastrophe that destroys trust between segments of society, eliminates equality, and entrenches dictatorship. Indeed, it is a necessity of dictatorship, which relies on exclusion, polarization, and individualism, A dictatorship cannot justify its existence except by affirming the treason of one group and the patriotism of another, The “patriotic” group represented by the dictator is the one that monopolizes power because it is patriotic, The other group is the group of traitors, whom the dictator, at best, grants a lenient prison sentence, reduced torture, or even death under torture. In other words, he attempts to discipline and train them to become “Nationalism” and she joins his flock!

With every problem the state faces, and with every failure of the authorities to manage the country’s affairs, talk of conspiracy resurfaces, dividing the people into two categories: the patriotic and the treacherous conspiratorial,, This categorization eliminates the possibility of dialogue between these groups, This elimination is a fundamental objective of any dictatorial regime, for dictatorial regimes dislike dialogue and the exchange of ideas, because they have no intellect! The means of repression they possess are used, such as prisons and their associated instruments like the whip and the cleaver, which rain down upon people’s necks amidst chants, songs, and resounding slogans that glorify the leader and sing the praises of patriotism, Then comes the role of the henchmen to distribute certificates of patriotism. Those deemed unpatriotic by the henchmen are subjected to arrest and torture, Afterward, the machinery of mediation and bribery kicks into motion to secure the release of the afflicted, all in the name and under the banner of patriotism and its counterpart, treason, All of this serves the interests of the dictatorship, which sows division along sectarian, ethnic, and affiliation lines, splitting people into… A patriot and a traitor to rule and dominate.

The increased emphasis on “patriotism” is directly proportional to the increased need for charlatanry, especially when problems arise that dictatorships cannot solve, In the event of failure, the production of slogans reaches the highest level, and the application of these slogans reaches the lowest level, Theorists of patriotism multiply, and their lessons and sermons regarding the necessity of patriotism and the necessity of loving and respecting the homeland proliferate, As for the necessity of the homeland loving and respecting the citizen and its concern for the citizen’s rights to freedom and equality, the talk is silence, Why should a citizen love and respect a homeland when this homeland does not love or respect him!!!!
