Physical violence against women is horrific, and we have discussed it in several previous articles , Now we want to briefly address psychological and moral violence as defined in the Universal Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women of 1993, The impact of psychological and moral violence is the harshest and most severe, leaving devastating effects on a woman’s personality, existence, and life, Psychological and moral violence includes all forms of humiliation, insult, neglect, and acting as if the male is the one in charge, In addition, it includes all kinds of insults, humiliation, contempt, and considering the woman a servant by day and a slave by night, All of this leaves psychological wounds and scars that do not heal quickly or easily.
Most of the causes of verbal, psychological, and moral violence in the societies of this region are due to the methods of upbringing derived from religion, which emphasized inequality and the preference of males over females, A nation whose affairs are managed by a woman will not succeed, The matter does not go back to jurisprudence or interpretations as the fabricators claim, The matter goes back to the original, clear texts in which there is no ambiguity or confusion, There is no ambiguity regarding the necessity of beating, or regarding testimony, or inheritance, or blood money, or what is said about adultery and stoning of the so-called adulteress, and even the tribal values that the religion adopted literally, with the exception of burying alive. Burying alive has its equivalent in evils in Sharia.
Customs and traditions provide support and justification for violence against women, In addition, there are tribal values, patriarchal culture, and religious teachings that incite contempt for women in their broad outlines, while acknowledging the existence of contradictions between some verses. The verses are “temperamental” and some contradict each other. However, the broad outline elevates the status of the male and diminishes the status of the female and secures the legislative basis for the oppression of women, Home upbringing substitutes for all the aforementioned physical and psychological violence, Home upbringing is responsible for entrenching tribal values and patriarchal culture in the souls of girls and boys,This is in addition to the external religious framework that entrenches psychological and moral violence in the souls of everyone, that is, in all members of the family, especially in the souls of the father and even the mother, in order to create a framework of customs, traditions, and social values that reinforce the inferiority of the female and the superiority of the male, The source of all the abnormalities and evils that we see is the problem of the duality of inferiority-superiority.
There is no human group that is perfect in every way, and Western societies are not entirely free of violence, However, violence in the social sphere is very limited and restricted, and the issue of violence in the governmental sphere is similar to the issue in the popular social sphere. The two spheres, i.e., the governmental and the social, cannot be compared with their counterparts in the Arab East exclusively, In the Arab East, the popular groups, for the most part, do not confront patriarchy, and the religious factor encourages patriarchy very clearly, The religious factor is of no importance without the presence of religiosity, even if it is formal and hypocritical, The groups called Arab are religious formally or truly, and formal religiosity expresses the hypocritical person and is worse by degrees than the truly religious person.
Regarding the difference between the Arab East and the European-American West, the economic factor is extremely important, In the Arab East, no woman exists without a sufficient monthly income to cover her basic needs, and no woman dies of hunger because her husband has stopped paying her, No woman sleeps on the street, and no child is homeless, Furthermore, most women work and are therefore economically independent and legally equal to men in all areas, In short, there is no comparison between Western women and Eastern women, especially those referred to as Arab women.
